Foundation history
The arrival of the Garífuna people to Punta Gorda Roatán on April 12, 1797 produced enormous changes; natives of the sector are suspicious of the new neighbors; so there was an urgent need for them to disperse with the purpose of finding fertile lands for agriculture, some arrived in Río Negro (Gariwalu) Trujillo, due to their strange complexion they were called caribes, caribales, morenos or negros.- these accustomed morenos to till the land, they begin another odyssey, to form a stable community. This is how we see the history of the Municipality of Santa Fe, of Punta Hicaco:
They began to form the Caserito de Santa Fe in 1799, with the morenos from the Río Negro (Gariwalu) neighborhood of Trujillo, who were looking for suitable land for agricultural work; they formed the hamlet from David, today Guadalupe; then Santa Fe or Punta Hicaco; In 1881, when the Department of Colón was created, it already appeared as a Municipality of the Trujillo circle, being the first Mayor Mr. Macedonio Moreira.
