The head of this municipality is located to the east of the coastal plain at the foot of the Jutiapa hill and the confluence of the Papaloteca and Jutiapa rivers. This municipality is located between the municipality of La Ceiba and the department of Colon, with Altitude: 17 meters above sea level from the sea at the coordinates: 86º 00′ and 87º 00′ West Longitude; 15º 00′ and 16º 00′ North Latitude.
Tourist attractions
Jutiapa is located in the eastern region of the department of Atlántida, at the foot of Cerro Jutiapa and its territory is crossed by the Papaloteca and Jutiapa rivers. It also has the Laguna El Cacao.
It is located on the highway that leads from La Ceiba to Trujillo, approximately 35 kilometers from La Ceiba, and only 10 kilometers from the Palma Real hotel complex, located in the village of Roma, Atlántida.
The municipality of Jutiapa communicates with the Village of Papaloteca through the historic iron bridge built long ago by the Standard Fruit Company, over the waters of the Papaloteca River.
From the bridge there is a beautiful view of some sectors of the community and it is enabled for the passage of pedestrians and cars. In ancient times, the National Railroad crossed this bridge, carrying passengers to La Ceiba and other sectors and also carrying loads of fruit from the banana companies.
